Great Maplestead wins Essex Village of the Year Award
Great Maplestead home to our first new build development – Field View, has been awarded Essex Village of the Year.
The awards, run by the Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE), took place at their Annual General Meeting in July.
The assessment carried out by RCCE’s highlighted the collaboration among key organisations within Great Maplestead. In particular the RCCE were impressed with how the organisations ensure a well-maintained and thriving social environment for residents.
The village was also commended for its varied activities held throughout the year, where residents actively engage in local and national events.
Unique features such as the plant exchange and the church warm room were also acknowledged.
Notably, the RCCE picked up on the villages successful fundraising to renovate the children’s play area and construct an accessible pathway on the playing field. A total of over £100,000 from local donations was raised including a grant from the National Lottery. RCCE praised the two schemes as evidence of effective community cooperation in the village.
The organisation also lauded Great Maplesteads adoption of social media platforms, facilitating connections among residents through support and chat groups.
The neighbouring village Castle Hedingham also received a ‘Highly Commended’ award.
